AGL Resources highly values the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities. Protecting and responsibly managing natural resources are critical to the quality of life in the areas we serve, the environment generally and AGL Resources' long-term business success.
Environment
AGL Resources is committed to complying with all environmental laws and regulations that are applicable to it. In addition, AGL Resources also does the following:
- Complies with the Company's own internal environmental standards;
- Promotes awareness about protecting the environment; and
- Considers environmental criteria when evaluating projects, products, processes and purchases, including acquisitions and divestitures.
Health and Safety
AGL Resources is committed to making the work environment safe and healthy for its employees and others and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations relating to safety and health in the workplace. Employees are told about procedures that are in place to protect them from generally recognized workplace hazards. Employees should correct or report dangerous conditions immediately to their supervisor, or management at their work location, so that workplace accidents are minimized.
To help ensure a safe and healthy work environment, AGL Resources prohibits certain activities, including the following:
- Threatening or violent behavior, or even the suggestion of such behavior, toward others, including coworkers, customers and suppliers;
- Possession of firearms, explosives or other weapons anywhere on Company property or while conducting Company business; and
- Willful destruction of Company property or the property of others.
AGL Resources also is committed to a drug-free workplace. The misuse of drugs, both legal and illegal, while on Company premises or business interferes with a safe, healthy, and productive work environment and therefore is prohibited. Specifically, AGL Resources prohibits the use, possession, distribution, or sale of illegal drugs on its premises, in its vehicles and while conducting AGL Resources business. Furthermore, no employee may conduct AGL Resources business while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Alcohol may be consumed on Company property only during Company-sponsored functions that have been approved by a senior officer of AGL Resources Inc., or by the chief executive or chief operating officer of a particular business unit.
If you are taking a drug or other medication, whether or not prescribed by a physician, which could impair judgment, coordination, or other senses important to the safe and productive performance of work, you must notify your immediate supervisor prior to starting work. Your supervisor will determine whether you can work and will impose any necessary work restrictions.
